Tiraspol, December 11. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. There is no any progress in the negotiation process with Moldova, and the prospects for resuming a full-fledged dialog are slim. Deputy Minister of PMR Foreign Affairs Alexander Stetsyuk announced this today during an online meeting of the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations. According to him, the main reason is the presidential election campaign in Moldova and its consequences.
“Official meetings of representatives on political issues haven’t been held since July this year. Albanian chairmanship in the OSCE can’t organize the next session of the "Permanent Meeting ..." because of the unstable political situation in Chisinau. Thus, a meeting in the 5 + 2 format has not been held this year for the first time since 2011,” the PMR Deputy Foreign Minister noted.
Alexander Stetsyuk stressed that neither the former Moldovan political representative, Kristina Lesnik, nor the new one Olga Chebotar, had taken practical steps to establish a dialogue. Things aren't so great at the level of interaction of expert working groups, according to the parliamentary press service website. Pridnestrovian and Moldovan experts met, but “they couldn’t work out any decisions this year,” the Deputy Minister noted.
“Taking into account the internal political situation development in the Republic of Moldova, the current situation in the negotiation process will continue. The PMR will continue to proceed from the position of Moldova's strict implementation of its obligations under the Berlin Plus package in the coming year. In this context, it should be noted that at the recent summit of the OSCE Foreign Ministers, the statement on the Pridnestrovian settlement, which was supported by the Moldovan side, reflected the need to implement the agreements reached in 2016-2018. The document also calls for organizing a 5 + 2 meeting under the chairmanship of Sweden as soon as possible,” Alexander Stetsyuk told parliamentarians.
Sweden will assume the OSCE chairmanship in 2021.
