Tiraspol, June 27. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky discussed with British Ambassador Stephen Fisher the PACE decision to recognize Pridnestrovie as a territory occupied by the Russian Federation.
“I understand that this is a decision from the anti-Russian sanctions case. But this decision does not look promising in Pridnestrovie,” Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized.
The head of the Pridnestrovian state recalled that simultaneously with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe current decision, the Agreement of 1992 on the peaceful settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict, which regulates the Russian peacekeeping forces` right to stay on the territory of Pridnestrovie, is in force. The provisions of these two documents are mutually exclusive, the President of the PMR noted.
Recall: on March 15, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) officially recognized Pridnestrovie as a zone of Russian occupation for the first time. Earlier in the Council of Europe, the territory was designated as being "under the effective control" of Russia.
In July 1992, Russia stopped Moldova's armed aggression against Pridnestrovie. Before this, several conciliation commissions, including those with the participation of international representatives, tried to stop the war on the Dniester. However, the mission of observers could not prevent the attacks of the armed formations of the Republic of Moldova on Bendery in June 1992. The bloodshed only stopped with the arrival of Russian peacekeepers.
A peacekeeping operation under the auspices of the Russian Federation has been implemented in Pridnestrovie since 1992 based on interstate agreements. It is recognized as one of the most successful ones in history: hostilities have not resumed, and not a single member of the peacekeeping mission has died since the beginning of its operation. In addition to the Russian Federation, the parties to the conflict take part in it - the PMR and the Republic of Moldova, as well as a group of military observers from Ukraine. The peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is formed from the operational group of Russian forces in Pridnestrovie.
