Tiraspol, February 10. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In late February, Pridnestrovian rowers will participate in a world Championship. There are three athletes from Bendery and Tiraspol among the world strongest sportsmen. Such decision was made by an international judiciary board, following on from December competition results. By now, the World Championships finalists are remembering, how unusual the registration and the qualifying race were held this season.
“We organized a race online on Concept-2 exercise equipment. In the sports hall only two persons were engaged in exercises. Moreover, everything was captured on video by our coaches. The request on results we were waiting for two months. By the way, the qualification conditions themselves were interesting. Firstly, it was necessary to make a contribution at the rate of 10 pounds sterling. Then we completed a form and confirmed our passport particulars. Everything is very solid and the level of the championship organization is undoubtedly high,” Kirill Vysotsky-Shestakov described.
Kirill Vysotsky-Shestakov from Tiraspol and Alexander Bulat from Bendery qualified the digital-selection for the adult World Championships. The sportsman Ivan Korshunov from Tiraspol achieved the World Championships final in rowing in the category under 23 years old. However, the question on format of their participation in competition still remains open.
“Regulations on organizing we will acquire by the weekend. However, we think, that the World Championships final will be also held in the online format, as well as the qualifying competitions. We notice, that the organizers don’t want to put athletes at risk, in view of a new strain of coronavirus appearance in Europe,” the rowing and canoeing coach Konstantin Gamalitsky commented on the situation.
The World Championships will be organized in Switzerland. Probably, the land of watches, chocolate and cheese will held the first-ever online Rowing World Championship. Competitions for the world gold will be held on February 27-28.
