Pridnestrovian track athletes to compete in Balkan Athletics Championships

8 sportsmen from Tiraspol and Bendery gained the right to it

Tiraspol, February 8. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Athletes from Tiraspol and Bendery have actively begun post-quarantine season: they took part in the Moldavian Athletics Federation Championship, as well as competed at the Winter Championship of Moldavia. According to their coaches, our athletes showed respectable results.

“We have assembled a very representative Pridnestrovian team. From our sport school about 53 sportsmen went to the competition. Thus, Tiraspol athletes won 44 prizes. The 15 athletes from capital won gold,” Alexander Ivanko, director of the Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve №2 noted.

Competition in Chisinau were qualifying for the Balkans arena. The Balkaniada among juniors will start in the Bulgarian Sofia on February 13. Totally, of the seven Moldavia’s national team track athletes six sportsmen are from Pridnestrovie. Tiraspol runners Nikolay Galushko (400 m) and Evgeniy Skok (60 m) won the opportunity to go to the large-scale international athletic competition. The team also includes the Bendery runner Yana Garayeva (400 m and 60 m hurdles). Meanwhile, a Bendery jumpers’ opponents were left without chances. Thus, Marina Yusumbeli (with triple jump), Nikita Kalinin (with long jump), Yulianna Dabizha (with triple jump) will also start out for conquering the Balkaniada.

Two athletes from Bendery Vadim Doskalov and Anastasia Senkiv will also start out for the Balkan Athletics Championships among adults, which will be held on February 20 in Istanbul, Turkey. Both sportsmen will perform a triple jump.

“I have already performed at the Balkan Athletics Championships so many times. I won silver and bronze medals of these competitions. This start is important by the fact, that is intermediate. At the Balkaniada, there’s also a qualification for more serious competitions, such as the European and the World Championships. At that moment, my main goal is to be propelled into the European Сhampionship, which will take place in March,” Anastasia Senkiv from Bendery stressed.

Until the end of February, Pridnestrovian track athletes are planning more visits to Chisinau. Plans call for city competitions as well as the Moldavian Youth Championship. After a sustained interruption, sportsmen gradually begin to participate in the competitive process, without making extensive plans.

 “It’s sad for us, that such important competitions were canceled: for instance, the European Winter Cup in Portugal. Our javelin throwers Denis Pikus and Nikolay Orlov were preparing for competitions. However, we are glad, that at least some kind of competitions has already begun. We will prepare for them and hope, that a new season will bring us more sports opportunities,” Alexander Ivanko noted.
