“This is a complete decomposition, discrediting and profanation of the state”

Today, the Constitutional Court of Moldova declared the Russian language particular status is illegal

Tiraspol, January 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The executive director of the Moldovan historical-geographical society, Evgeniy Pascar, commented on the Moldovan Constitutional Court decision to declare the law on the status of the Russian language as unconstitutional.

“With reference of this decision and especially the motivation, a simple question arises: why do we need parliamentary and presidential elections, why do we need all these unnecessary procedures, wasting of time and money (both ours and taxpayers), if judges’ group (stooges of others states) makes decisions, that prejudice rights and legal requirements of Moldova’s citizens, despises the Parliament decisions? The contentions of these judges are sometimes absurd and based on historical prevarications, but the decisions are unconstitutional... This is a complete decomposition, discrediting and profanation of the state,” Evgeniy Pascar in one of the Facebook communities wrote.

The law “On the languages’ functioning on the territory of the Moldavian SSR”, adopted in 1989, was declared as obsolete in 2018. In December the year of 2020, the Moldovan Parliament adopted a new governing document.

The law stipulated the possibility of using the Russian language in government institutions, formal communication and enquiries. Moreover, officials were required to reply to citizens in Russian.

This caused discontent in the Moldova’s political and social environment. Today, unionists gathered in front of the Constitutional Court building, shouting abuses at the Russian language and Russian-speaking citizens.

The Constitutional Court of Moldova declared the Russian language particular status as illegal.
