Tiraspol, October 22. /Novosti Pridnestrovia/. Most recently, the main University of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic celebrated its 90th anniversary. During this time, the University has repeatedly witnessed various stages of structural reorganization. Now the Alma mater will have the big reconstruction. At the initiative of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, the Pridnestrovian State University was included in the program of the Capital Investment Fund, and repair work will begin there in the near future. The Vice-Rector for Economic Activity and Strategic Development of the Pridnestrovian State University named after T.G. Shevchenko, Vladislav Sokolov told about what the university will be like after reconstruction.
The big renovations of the state University will begin with the restoration of the first and the second buildings. They are the oldest buildings of the University, for more than 30 years they haven’t seen capital repairs. The first building this year, along with the University, has reached the age of 90, the second building is a couple years younger. The facades of both buildings will be completely renovated. In the second building, where necessary, the windows will also be replaced.
The territory around the University will also be improved. Between the first and the second buildings there is a public garden, which is being reconstructed in the same style as the Gagarin Boulevard: there will be archways, benches, and landscaped flowerbeds with a new design. Old emergency trees will be removed, but instead, new ones will be planted. The public garden will be named as “Student garden”.
The Vice-Rector for Economic Activity and Strategic Development of the University said, that a fountain will be built near the second building. Previously, it had located there, but back in Soviet times it had been filled up. Vladislav Sokolov noted, that now they have decided to reveal the former fountain, examine its condition and restore it.
Upon the project, it is planned to install a sculpture on the fountain. What exactly it will be, they don’t know yet. Everyone, who wants will be able to submit sculptures design and take part in the competition, which the university will announce a little bit later. The winning project will be implemented.
On the roof of the second building there is a dome of the planetarium. It’s outdated a long time ago, and doesn’t correspond to the modern University telescope, therefore it is also will be reconstructed.
The next big renovations item is the multifunctional digital educational center. It will be located in the former reading room in the third building.
According to the Vice-Rector for Economic Activity and Strategic Development, the modern technology center will be equipped with all the most modern technical equipment. Vladislav Sokolov noted, that under the conditions of current reality, this object will be a big help in the distance learning, which at the moment has become popular.
“Life makes us to adopt new formats of work, to use new methods. The whole world has long been practicing partial or full transition to distance education. By necessity, we also started working in these conditions in March. This direction isn’t new for the University, we have tasted it before, therefore the transition to the distance form of education was not a surprise to us, we were ready for this,” Vladislav Sokolov stressed.
He noted, that the center will facilitate not only development of distance education, but also improving the technical skills of students. The existing school of robot technology at the University will be located there too.
With regard to technical development, Vladislav Sokolov noted: the topical issue for the University is its own Wi-Fi network. The Vice-Rector stressed, that this is necessary in order to freely connect to the Internet in the entire territory of the University. At the moment work is in progress on this issue: a project is being developed, the necessary equipment is being determined.
Another large-scale part of the big renovations is the modernization of the campus. Vladislav Sokolov reminded, that the President had set the task of creating normal conditions for students, living in dormitories. According to the Vice-Rector, public areas will be repaired in all buildings of the campus. This includes kitchens, bathrooms, sanitary room and amenity rooms.
All communications will be completely reconstructed: plumbing, electricity. It is also planned to overhaul the campus. The old asphalt pavement will be replaced with a modern concrete one, and the pedestrian zone will be covered with paving slab. In addition, garden-houses and benches for leisure-time of young people will be renovated. Washing machines will be installed in all dormitories, gas and electric stoves will be replaced. The new equipment was presented to the state University by the President of the PMR on its anniversary.
The Vice-Rector for Economic Activity and Strategic Development said, that the visualization of listed works was prepared by lecturers and students of the Department of Architecture of the Pridnestrovian State University.
All of these renovation works are planned to be completed by the beginning of the next academic year.
