Bendery, February 20. /Novosti Pridnestrovia/. Representatives of the governing body of the peacekeeping operation hold consultations about the worsening situation in the Central Section of the Safety Zone. The first meeting with all delegations of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) took place on 18 February.
''The parties have taken the initiative to coordinate their actions, reduce tensions, create conducive to the dialogue atmosphere in order to find common ground within the framework of resolving related to the peacekeeping operation problematic issues. The JCC is a single body responsible for the overall status of the peacekeeping operation. Therefore, the commission should do everything to ensure the operation continues in the normal course,'' Co-Chairman of the JCC from Pridnestrovie Oleg Belyakov told journalists during the interview.
As Novosti Pridnestrovya has reported previously, the Moldovan side distributed an official appeal with a report on possible provocations at the posts of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in early February. Representatives of Moldova stated that the presence of the peacekeepers allegedly causes indignation among residents of a number of settlements in the Dubossary district. The Co-Chair from the RM said that if the peacekeeping posts were not removed, the peacekeepers ''would be hunted down by a pitchfork-wielding mob. The Pridnestrovian delegation stressed in response that this situation was escalated artificially. At the same time, in order to avoid provocations, the representatives of Tiraspol proposed to take additional security measures.
During the regular meeting of the JCC, information on the situation in the Safety Zone was announced. The situation was considered stable and controlled.
At the same time, Oleg Belyakov noted that there had been a small incident related to the inspection of vehicles at the posts of the peacekeeping force. The driver prevented the vehicle from being checked for weapons and ammunition.
