Traditional February military-sports festival dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day was held this year on the eve of the holiday. Hundreds of military personnel, residents and guests of Tiraspol gathered at the republican stadium. Participants were welcomed by the Commander-in-Chief of the PMR Armed Forces Vadim Krasnoselsky.
Pupils of the Tiraspol Suvorov Military School and the Republican Cadet Corps took part in the event in addition to the units of the power departments of Pridnestrovie and the OGRV. The program is divided into two blocks - competitive and indicative.
The competitive part of the event was preceded by the joint implementation of techniques with standard weapons. Then, eight teams competed in throwing grenades at a distance and pulled the rope. An obligatory component of the military sports festival program is a paramilitary relay race. It is traditionally multi-stage. Four elements were identified for the young participants of the competition, and seven stages of the relay for the military personnel. The task includes running a hundred meters with a machine gun, passing the same distance in a gas mask, as well as with a medical bag, running in a bulletproof helmet and body armor, moving a box of ammunition and a wounded man.
Representatives of the Guard of Honor, special forces detachment of the PMR Ministry of Defense, Suvorov and cadets demonstrated military sports skills. Representatives of the four power structures held a counter-terrorist operation at the stadium. Military personnel of the OGRV in Pridnestrovie dedicated a large-scale historical reconstruction to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. The final chord of the festive event was the performance of the marching song.
The military sports festival concluded with an award ceremony. The head of the Republican Board of Trustees, First PMR President Igor Smirnov congratulated the young participants in the competitions. This year, the cadets outdistanced pupils of Suvorov military school in the overall ranking.
The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky handed over the cup and diploma of the PMR President to the team of the Ministry of PMR Internal Affairs - the winner of the competitions held as part of the military sports festival dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day. The most distinguished participants of the event, who demonstrated the best performance, got valuable gifts.
Congratulating the participants and winners of the competitions, the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that the current servicemen are the descendants of the heroes who defended the Pridnestrovian frontiers in Suvorov times, the soldiers-liberators of the Great Patriotic War, the defenders of Pridnestrovie at the beginning of the 90s of the last century. Vadim Krasnoselsky made specific mention of the peacekeepers of the Russian Federation. Vadim Krasnoselsky reminded that 2020 is the year of two anniversaries significant for the Pridnestrovian people - the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 30th anniversary of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the PMR President emphasized that preserving the memory of the heroic deed of a Soviet soldier, defender of Pridnestrovie, a peacekeeping soldier everyone’s holy duty.
The President thanked the organizers and participants of the military sports festival, noting the high level of training, and congratulated everyone on the upcoming Defender of the Fatherland Day.
