Fortresses of Dniester association agreement was signed in Bendery

It is planned to include several fortresses there: Bendery, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Soroca, and Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle

Bendery, October 10. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Within the framework of the VII Pridnestrovian International Investment Economic Forum, the Bendery and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi fortresses signed an agreement on collaboration, cooperation and the creation of the Fortresses of Dniester association. In the future, it is planned to include the Soroca fortress and Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle in the association.

“There are several fortresses on the Dniester River. And for a long time there was an idea to create a tourist route that would unite them. The initiative of association creation was the Bendery City Council. It was supported by the establishment of the republic, and today the first agreement was signed,” Yuri Kara, Chairman of the Bendery City Council said.

“The first contract that we signed today is a landmark event for our fortress. We will exchange experience with our colleagues, create joint tourist routes that will attract even more tourists. They learn even more about our fortress outside the borders of our republic,” Alexander Yaskov, the Bendery Fortress head said.

One more fact unites Bendery, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi and Soroca fortresses. According to historical documents, there were the Republic of Genoa fortifications in the 13th-16th centuries. To learn more about this, a professor of archeology from Genoa, who is presenting his book, was invited to the PIIEF 2019.

“In addition, Pridnestrovian State University is negotiating on the possibility to obtain an archival transcript from Genoa which considered information about fortifications that were in the Northern Black Sea region,” Yuri Kara said.

The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi fortress head, Alexander Morozov also told about plans for cooperation. First of all, these are joint tourist routes, the museum creation, participation in international grants.

“The association of fortresses will also be useful for adding objects to the UNESCO list. Our fortress is included in the preliminary list,” Alexander Morozov emphasized, noted that over the past three years the number of tourists visiting the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi fortress has increased significantly.

“We offer a wide range of services: we hold international festivals, artisans’ workshops, concerts, quests. Over the past three years, according to tourists’ reviews, our rating climbed 1.4 points (from 3 to 4.6 points). More attention is paid to the tourist. We have 15 thematic excursion routes. For example, a gastronomic tour. We recreated medieval cuisine. We plan to make a weekend tour,” Alexander Morozov said.
