Tiraspol, July, 26. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Most recently the State Sports Service of the PMR accredited the Republican Sports Federation on wakeboarding. This is a relatively new, actively developing extreme sport, which absorbed the best of water skiing, surfing and snowboarding. Athletes who are engaged in this kind of sport are called riders.
In Pridnestrovie wakeboarding is only developing. But already this year on August 10-11 in Tiraspol there will be held a stage of the world wakesurfing championship. Our republic hosts competitions of this scale for the first time. In wakesurfing, the skating goes as follows: when a boat accelerates, the athlete clings to the halyard, yet then throws it and continues to slide on the waves, which the boat creates using ballast.
According to the Wakeboarding Federation, as of today, 40 world-class riders have already applied for participation in the world championship stage, but there are no Pridnestrovians among them. This year our republic acts only as an organizer of these competitions. It is expected that the world championship will be held annually in Tiraspol.
