Tiraspol, July 25. / Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Public Service on Sport of the PMR accredited Republican Wakeboarding Sports Federation. It is rather new actively developing spectacular extreme sport incorporated the best from water skis, surfing and snowboarding. The athletes are called riders.
What is wakeboarding?
At wakeboarding, the movement is carried out by a boat. Speed of a boat averages 35 km/h, and onboard there is ballast which creates the necessary waves for extreme driving. The wave is some kind of springboard. During a jump, riders carry out the main tricks.
There are two directions in this sport: boat wakeboarding and rope wakeboard. In boat wakeboarding the rider on a special board goes behind the boat, holding a tether (a special cable). At the same time the rider, not just rides, but carries out extreme tricks on waves or special springboards. In rope wakeboard, the movement on water happens due to special tugboats with ropes. In Pridnestrovie, there is only one direction so far – boat wakeboarding.
10-15 minutes of Wakeboarding training can be compared with two hours in the gym. While riding almost all groups of muscles are involved, there is a serious load of hands, legs, back and core.
Wakeboarding in Pridnestrovie
In general wakeboarding in our republic exists for 9 years. So far we had only a non-profit public sports organization «Tiraspol Federation of Wakeboarding «Wake Pro». It has also formed a basis for creation of the Republican Federation.
To go in for wakeboarding first of all desire is necessary, besides, you should not be afraid. It is also necessary to have elementary skills in physical training. You can learn to ride on a wakeboard in only 1-2 hours, Dmitry Kurlatov told.
«As for equipment, surely you should have a specialized wakeboarding life jacket and also a helmet while studying. And for those who chose wakeboarding in a cold season it is necessary to have a diving suit», - the executive director of «Wake Pro» reported.
Who prefers this sport in our republic?
According to Dmitry Kurlatov, riders in our republic are of the most different age: from 12 and up to 60 years. More than 20 people do this sport. The season for the riders lasts since the end of April and to the end of October or the beginning of November. In the off-season, athletes are engaged in general physical training. Riders of more professional level which carry out different tricks except the general preparation are also engaged in acrobatic.
«In Pridnestrovie, we train mostly with the help of boat and hydro cycle. Financing happens at the expense of the participants. There are only people who are really interested in the process. To tell simply, we gather, take the boat, chip in together for gasoline and train», - Dmitry Kurlatov told.
He noted that even Russian riders came to train in Pridnestrovie as their summer was very short, and we had excellent conditions for training. For the last three years repeated champions of the Russian Federation, numerous winners and prize-winners of the European and the world championships Georgy Hudnitsky, Yaroslav Valeev, Svetlana Belova, Aleksandra Tunenko carry out training wake-camps here.
Global competitions on the Dniester
This year in Pridnestrovie there will pass the stage of a World Wakesurfing Championship. It will take place on August 10-11 in Tiraspol. Our republic hosts competitions of such scale for the first time. In the wakesurfing the rider trails behind a boat, riding the boat's wake without being directly pulled by the boat. After getting up on the wake, typically by use of a tow rope, the wake surfers will drop the rope, and ride the steep face below the wave's peak like in surfing.
Dmitry Kurlatov told that today 40 world-class riders have submitted the application for participation in a stage of a World Championship, but there were no pridnestrovians among them. Our republic this year acts only as of the organizer of these competitions. The Pridnestrovian Wakeboarding Federation expects that the stage of a world championship in Tiraspol will be carried out annually.
