Tiraspol, December, 20. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Year of Equal Opportunities results were discussed today at the Presidential Commission for Persons with Disabilities. It should be reminded, that this deliberative body was first established in October 2017. The decree was signed by the President Vadim Krasnoselski for the state policy implementation in the area of social protection of persons with disabilities.
The commission includes representatives and heads of state authorities, as well as leaders and members of public organizations representing people with disabilities.
During the meeting, it was repeatedly noted that the Year of Equal Opportunities, as expected, would change the attitude towards people with disabilities.
“I'm really glad to say that there are many people in the community of persons with disabilities who believe that they are supported. This is very important when a person believes that someone is following him, that he is supported in his efforts, and he becomes more confident in himself. He begins to accept himself as he is. We see that the state hears us. It extended its helping hand, and also its affiliate hand. We must be such partners – equal ones. Together we must create a society in which everyone will feel comfortable and cozy” - Dmitry Kuzuk, director of the World Equal Opportunities charity foundation, member of the Presidential Commission, said.
This year a lot has been done for people with disabilities. In particular, Pridnestrovie acceded to the 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which aims to ensure the full participation of persons with disabilities in civil, political, economic, social and cultural life of society, as well as elimination of disability-based discrimination.
Also this year, the reconstruction of the Paralympic Center, which would open in capital next year, has begun. The new building of the capital correctional school construction has been completed. Another sports center for people with disabilities will appear in Bendery. There is being built a new center building for children with special needs In Dubossary. In the village of Karagash there was opened a day care center for people with disabilities.
For the first time this year, 97 children with disabilities were able to rest at seaside at the expense of the state. Some children improved their health in "Dniester" sanatorium, which had been restored this year.
In addition, cities and districts of the republic are becoming more accessible for people with disabilities. There are ramps, call buttons and sounded traffic lights appeared. For the convenience of moving people with special needs, an electronic accessibility map has been created. As noted at the meeting, in fact, large-scale work in this direction has just begun. Employment, education, infrastructure - is not the case of one year.
The main thing is that with the end of the Year of Equal Opportunities people with disabilities will not be forgotten. This year, in Pridnestrovie, the state target program “Equal Opportunities” has been developed. It is designed for 4 years.
“This program is already supported by certain financial sources. A total of about 4 million rubles was pledged for 4 years” - Oleg Fedotov, Deputy Minister for Social Protection and Labor said.
According to work results for the year, all members of the commission heading public organizations were awarded with the third degree Breast Badge "For Contribution to Society".
