Tiraspol, 30 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Pridnestrovian president answered the questions of Russia's Izvestia daily. Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about the current state of the negotiation process, the relations between Pridnestrovie and neighbouring states, the presidential press service reports.
According to him, the relationship with Ukraine, which is a guarantor country in the "5 +2" negotiation format, remains difficult. At the same time, Pridnestrovie and Ukraine have many ties, including kindred. "It's impossible to cut them off. Therefore, I am sure that sooner or later our relations will improve," noted the president.
A dialogue with neighbouring Moldova is not easy either, according to Vadim Krasnoselsky. On 19 July, the Moldovan parliament approved a national defence strategy for 2018-2022. The document notes as a threat, among other things, the military potential of Pridnestrovie.
The president believes that there is nothing sensational in this decision of the Moldovan lawmakers: "If we take a close look at the events that have been taking place in the neighbouring state for the past two years, we will see that the parliament's decision fully corresponds to their strategy. This is the usual law-making procedure of the neighbouring state. Russia is being driven away, using ‘soft power’ because ‘hard power’, of course, will not work. Personally, for me, everything is transparent and clear."
Vadim Krasnoselsky stated that the only peace guarantors on the banks of the Dniester are Russian peacekeepers. "Peace and the Russian presence on the Dniester banks are synonyms," noted the president.
Answering a question about the prospects of the negotiation process after Dmitry Kozak appointment as a special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on trade and economic relations with Moldova, Vadim Krasnoselsky said that the "Kozak plan", taking into account the current situation, does not comply with the very Constitution, laws or subordinate regulatory documents of Moldova.
"Now there are a lot of problems that need to be addressed. In the field of economy, culture, education and the humanitarian sphere. That's what we must start with. All the problems that have accumulated for decades must be solved gradually. They are subject to discussion and resolution. It is not necessary to pursue any big plans," the president believes.
The final goal of the settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict, according to Vadim Krasnoselsky, is still the independent and the recognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
"This is the goal. Of course, with subsequent integration into the Russian Federation. We want to restore historical justice, which was lost after the collapse of the Soviet Union. To be in unity with Russia. What kind of unity it will be - time will tell. To date, I see it as economic, cultural, humanitarian and peacekeeping unity. This may be followed by political unity," noted the president.
