PSU rector meets American diplomats

Opportunities for students' language practice and courses for university teachers were discussed during the meeting

Tiraspol, 25 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The delegation of the US Embassy in Moldova visited Pridnestrovian State University (PSU). The rector of the university, Stepan Beril, met the press attaché of the US Embassy in Moldova, Gavin Pearcey, and the acting deputy assistant secretary of state for public diplomacy programs in Europe, Sharon Hudson Dean.

Stepan Beril told the guests about the country's main university.

"PSU today is the largest educational complex. There are ten faculties, two branches and one institute. Each year we graduate about 2,000 people. Over 20 years, more than 37,000 people have graduated from PSU," said the rector. He also stressed that the university interacts with all educational institutions throughout Pridnestrovie, provides the education system and other industries of the country with the necessary personnel.

The diplomats were interested in cooperation between the embassy and PSU. According to Beril, the most important today is academic mobility, within which there will be an interaction of various universities and training of students in the specialities that are now not available at PSU.

"The experience of European countries in the field of education is very important for us, and we appreciate the support that you are giving us," said Beril.

Opportunities for students' language practice and refresher courses for university teachers were also discussed.

The guests had a tour of PSU, visited seven foreign language centres and the archaeological museum, the university press centre reports.
