Tiraspol, 6 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Ministry of Internal Affairs celebrates the anniversary of its establishment. 27 years ago, in March 1991, the Supreme Council of the PMSSR approved the structure of the government of the young republic, which included the Department of Internal Affairs. This was the beginning of the formation of the entire law enforcement system, President Vadim Krasnoselsky said at a grand meeting, adding that this decision became crucial not only for the department but also for the entire republic.

"The staff of the central apparatus were tasked with creating conditions for the transition of the law enforcemet bodies of cities and districts to the jurisdiction of the PMR. And it was they who began the process of forming the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was finally completed when the Bendery police department was created. The first one was established in Rybnitsa. Thanks to the support of the people, the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was formed on the whole, and later other power structures were established on its basis," said the president.

As yearly as 1992 the Internal Affairs Dpeartment turned into the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The core of the future law enforcement agency was laid by 17 employees of the central apparatus. Today there are 30 departments and offices, including 3 educational institutions.

"Twenty-seven years ago we took responsibility and made a politically important decision. Officers, sergeants and rank-and-file police officers chose equality of all nationalities living on the left bank of the Dniester, freedom and independence of Pridnestrovie as the main priorities. Safuguarding law and order is a noble and honorable mission, a huge responsibility to people, the state and law. Whichever period of its history Pridnestrovian society is going through, the law enforcement service has been and will be an example of self-sacrifice, loyalty to duty and oath," said internal affairs minister Ruslan Mova.

A minute of silence was observed, and flowers were laid to comemorate the memory of 42 officers who died in the line of duty during the fighting in 1992 and in peacetime. Special attention is paid to the veterans on this day - to those who from the very beginning created the ministry.

"Twenty-seven years is a long enough period to say that the decision taken at that time was right and necessary for the people," said Ivan Fuchedzhi, who ran the ministry in the mid-1990s.

On the holiday's occasion a number of police officers received awards and regular special ranks.  Those who participated in the detention of armed criminals were awarded medals "For Courage" and "For Excellent Service".
