Litskay: Pridnestrovie has advanced far towards recognition

The former foreign minister called the Moscow resolution on the legality of Pridnestrovie's recognition "a good document", based on which diplomatic work could be further conducted

Tiraspol, 27 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Diplomatic recognition is always preceded by other recognitions, and Pridnestrovie has advanced far towards its recognition, former foreign minister Valery Litskay believes.

In his interview with the First Pridnestrovian TV channel, he recalled the documents that gave Pridnestrovie the opportunity to cooperate with the Russian Federation. Such agreements had been concluded in the spheres of healthcare and education, Litskay noted.

The ex-minister called the resolution on Pridnestrovie's legal status drawn up by Russia's Federal Chamber of Lawyers "a well-elaborated document". It was adopted following the international roundtable conference "The political and legal grounds for international recognition of Pridnestrovie", which was held in Moscow on 21 November.

"This document drawn up by the chamber of lawyers is a well-elaborated document. So we have a basis for statements. I believe we've laid the basis and on this basis diplomatic work can be conducted next year. This is very important," said Litskay.

"This document will be read not only in the UN but in other places as well, and there will be an immediate assessment whether the country is good or bad... I think the document is good, and it will support our reputation," he said.

According to him, the country's main task is legal recognition, and it will suffice if only Russia recognises Pridnestrovie.

"We are in the same position as Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Recognition by such a giant as Russia is more than enough for us. I'll tell you straight we'll never be recognised by Moldova... this should be taken as a fact. Together with Russia, we need to work out a chain of recognition. This will be a long-term state-run programme," said Litskay, assuming that the present government would be able to succeed in this direction.

Commenting on the conclusion of four humanitarian agreements between Kishinev and Tiraspol, Litskay noted that there was a favourable diplomatic climate for negotiations.

"The diplomats have had good cards; the wind is blowing in our sails. And we can go to further results in full sail. In no case should this wind be missed. There are real challenges that can be resolved next year," said Litskay.
