Turkish engineers come to examine Bendery Fortress

The Turkish delegation has been received at the presidential administration

Tiraspol, 22 August. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie has great expectation for cooperation with Turkish construction engineers in the reconstruction of the Bendery Fortress, the presidential adviser, Pavel Prokudin, said.

He noted that agreements reached at a meeting between President Krasnoselsky and Turkey's ambassador to Moldova Hulusi Kilic were gradually beginning to be realised. Thus, a state commission had already been formed to develop this object. Besides, a fortress development plan had been approved, according to which the fortress area is being cleared for a tourist zone.

It is planned to build a hotel where cultural events could be held, as well as other facilities which could increase the flow of tourists.

«In our view, it would be promising to establish a museum of Janissaries in one of the towers, a house of Sirakira and a house of Pasa, where household items could be displayed," said Prokudin.

He recalled that the fortress had been first opened for visitors in 2007, following the start of reconstruction dedicated to the 600th anniversary of Bendery. But it was carried out only in a small area, and some parts still require active intervention and repair in order to preserve this historic site. And this is where, according to Prokudin, the Turkish specialists could help us.

The head of the delegation, interior architect Meltem Sanli, said that it now consists mainly of technical specialists: architects, construction engineers and electricians. They have already studied an assessment report and are now going to examine the object themselves.

«The main purpose of our visit is to study the establishment of the museum's Turkish department. As far as the reconstruction of the fortress as a whole is concerned, this work will be carried out in stages. We'll need to sign the relevant contracts and protocols. During this visit, we'll conduct a survey of the fortress in situ," she noted.
