Tiraspol, 2 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The member of the Pridnestrovian delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC), Vasily Vakarchuk, has commented on a recent incident involving the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Moldova, most of whom were also JCC members. According to him, everything signals there is a task to shatter and unbalance the JCC's work.
«Blocking the work of the governing body will shatter other mechanisms of the peacekeeping operation as well. This refers to both military observers and peacekeeping contingents," he said
Vakarchuk does not rule out that the Moldovan side may again block the JCC's work.
«It may happen that only Moldova's co-chair will come to the next JCC meeting. In legal terms, a delegation must consist of at least two JCC members. Only then is a meeting deemed legally correct and reasonable. But if the regulations are violated, the JCC will not be able to make its decisions," said Vakarchuk.
The Joint Control Commission is the governing body of the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester. The meetings of the JCC have been regularly held in Bendery since 1992. All decisions are made consensually by the delegations of three parties — Russia, Moldova and Pridnestrovie. Subsequently, Ukraine and the OSCE joined in the JCC's work as observers. From mid-2014 to 2017 the official Kishinev blocked the JCC's work. A substantive dialogue resumed following the meeting of the presidents of the PMR and Moldova, Krasnoselsky and Dodon.
