PSU may obtain Russian university status

This was announced by rector Stepan Beril at a meeting with journalism students

Tiraspol, 17 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Yesterday the Russian centre of Pridnestrovian State University was the host of the first meeting of the student press club. It was organised by the department of literature and journalism. Under this format, journalism students will be able to talk to interesting people, discuss current problems and learn something new, PSU's media centre reports.

Rector Stepan Beril became the first guest of the club. He talked with future journalists and answered their questions. One of the main topics of the conversation was granting PSU the status of Russian university.

«We can say with certainty today that the process of granting the status of a Russian-Pridnestrovian university is under way. The academic mobility of our students is very high. Many of our graduates study at Russian universities and receive two diplomas — Russian and Pridnestrovian. Our scientific personnel defend their PhD theses and are certified in Russia as well. This is the work we successfully carry out without signing interstate agreements," said the rector.

According to him, the most important thing that will result from full recognition of PSU as a Russian-Pridnestrovian university is financing. It will be shared fifty-fifty by the parties.

Stepan Beril also noted that the graduates of the new university would receive two diplomas — Russian and Pridnestrovian and Russian thesis boards would function in the university, operating within the Russian legal and regulatory framework. «We will defend thus the rights of our citizens," underscored the rector.

Besides, the students were interested in establishing a university media centre where would-be journalists could create their own media content. According to the rector, this is what the university has long planned to do.

«We've just run out of funds, but the establishment of such a centre is very important for the university. And it's not because we want to show something to someone, but because this provides quite different opportunities," he explained.

The rector and all the students were satisfied with the meeting. It is expected that future journalists will hold meetings with other distinguished representatives of PSU and with those who possess information of public interest.
