Tiraspol, 26 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovian karatekas won four golden medals at the international tournament CHERNIVTSI OPEN, which was held last week in Ukraine's Chernivtsi. Our country was represented by 12 athletes from Tiraspol, Slobodzeya, Dnestrovsk, Rybnitsa and Karagash village. 660 fighters from Ukraine, Moldova and Romania took part in the competition.
The tournament programme included kata and kumite events among all age groups.
The trainees of the president of the Pridnestrovian Karate Federation, Vladimir Moiseyev, showed the best results among Pridnestrovian karatekas. Alexey Chiley won gold in both events, as well as in the U-8 kumite absolute championship. Oleg Tkachenko was the best in the U-12 kata event.
Young Pridnestrovians also won silver and bronze medals. Among prize winners are Natvey Lulka (kata), Alina Pyntya and Vasily Pashura (kumite), Vladimir Gibeskul (kata and kumite). Rybnitsa's Diana Ponomareva won a silver medal among juniors in the 59kg weight category.
With 14 golden medals, the Katana team from Chernomorsk, Odessa District, took first place in the team competition. The Pridnestrovian karatekas took seventh place.
There was a good level of competition in the Chernivtsi tournament, and the same is expected at the Pridnestrovian open championship, which takes place in Tiraspol on 13 May with the participation of athletes from Ukraine, Moldova and Romania.
