The Public Chamber has hold a meeting today to discuss the foreign exchange market situation The meeting was attended by a head chair of the PRB, Vadim Stepanov, and the chair of the Supreme Council's committee on economic policy, budget and finance, Alexander Martynov.
The PRB and parliament representatives briefed chamber members on their positions. Thus, Vadim Stepanov once again called the fall in exports as a reason for the current situation in the foreign exchange market. He particularly noted that Pridnestrovie had to reduce by 28% the price for electric power supplied to Moldova. Alexander Martynov, in turn, said the currency agiotage had been caused by a panic after information on the possible devaluation of the Pridnestrovian rouble had been leaked.
Public Chamber members urged the Supreme Council, government and the central bank to combine efforts to overcome the current situation in the domestic exchange market.
«We emphasise that overcoming this crisis is only possible if all bodies of state power work jointly. This issue cannot be resolved by some individual ministerial decrees. This complex problem requires a joint decision," said the chamber's chair, Sergey Smirichinsky, commenting on the meeting's results.
