Tiraspol, 24 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources held a meeting yesterday, which was attended by representatives of the State Supervision Agency of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Customs Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The meeting was caused by an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in Ukraine. The particular incident took place in Ukraine's Odessa region near the border with Pridnestrovie, where a sow, six pigs and one piglet died in one of private households, the website of the State Supervision Agency reports.
In the course of the meeting ways of preventing the country's livestock from contracting ASF were determined. In particular, arrangements were made to toughen control over the importation of living pigs, pork and technical raw materials from the adjacent countries.
The authorities are taking all necessary measures to prevent the contamination of the country's pig population with ASF.
This issue was also discussed in Rybnitsa on Monday, 21 March. According to epizootologist Ivan Shishkov, almost all pig population in Rybnitsa has already been vaccinated with young stock being currently vaccinated.
