As Novosti Pridnestrovya has already reported, today, 8 October, Bendery's Tkachenko House of Culture hosted a solemn meeting dedicated to the 607th anniversary of Bendery. President Yevgeny Shevchuk took the floor to congratulate the residents of Bendery on the holiday. He expressed gratitude to city defenders, who were up in arms in 1992 and saved the future for their generation. The head of state noted that in more than 600 years of Bendery's history the cultural continuity has not been interrupted here, and nobody forgets the heroic deeds of city residents.

According to the president, the example of Bendery residents' courage is also of current importance today when the country is facing a range of challenges and threats. «They are trying to deprive us of our statehood and future. Both foreign and domestic enemies of our country have become active. They are manipulating public opinion and trying to gut our economy and independence. But we shall not let that happen!» said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

«The history of Bendery and Pridnestrovie has proved we are the strong and unbending nation. And we shall overcome!» underscored the president.

The chairwoman of the government, Tatyana Turanskaya, noted in her turn that Bendery is a dynamically developing and comfortable city, one of industrial centres of our country. She underscored that first of all this is the great achievement of Bendery residents who work for the benefit of their little homeland and Pridnestrovie on the whole. «Behind every scientific discovery, behind each cultural achievement are the talented residents of Bendery," said the prime minister.

City residents were also congratulated by the head of Bendery's state administration, Nikolay Gliga, and the chairman of the city council, Yuri Kara. The meeting was followed by a festive concert.
