A trainee of the republican specialised sports school, Denis Tserna took part in the European Table Tennis Team Championship, which took place in September in Yekaterinburg.
Being a member of Moldova's national team, the Dubossary player gained six victories in seven matches.
Today the player was congratulated on the victory by the table tennis school and Pridnestrovie's State Agency for Sports.
«I'd like to thank Denis for this achievement and express gratitude to the whole training and teaching staff of the sports school and especially to the parents of our champion for bringing up a high-class athlete. Be healthy and gain new victories!» said the chief of the Mass Sport Department, Oleg Dubrovin, in his speech.
The national team of Moldova participated in the division «Standard». In their subgroup the Moldovan players beat Kosovo, Scotland and Malta teams and got qualified into the main draw. In a semi-final they managed to beat the Cyprus team. After that, in the final they played against Europe's multiple prize winners from the Netherlands and lost 0:3.
These are strongest players on the continent," said sports school director, Valeriy Grosul. «We have long expected such a result. We have already had both European prize winners and champions but among girls. And now we have another excellent athlete — the young man. We see a big player in him.
«This is a great success for me," said Denis Tserna. «We have trained much, and we've been a committed team. Each player tried to gain a point for the team. I am very grateful for my coaches who taught me to achieve goals.»
Today, silver medal winner Denis Tserna was presented with a table tennis school cup and a diploma on behalf of the State Agency for Sports. The Dubossary tennis player is planning to take part in the Olympics, and in the near future he will start training for the new world championship, which takes place in 2016 in Malaysia.
