Pridnestrovie's rowers win a medal in the European Youth Championship

In the Romanian Baskov City, the European Junior (under 18 years) and Youth (18-23 years) Rowing Championship came to an end

More than 700 athletes from 37 European countries took part in heats with the strongest young rowers from Europe. In the competition, six rowers from Pridnestrovie represented the national teams of the Russian Federation and Moldova.

Our athletes have won one award — bronze. Alexey Protsanov won the award being in a crew of a canoe four at a distance of 500 meters in the competition among juniors. Alexey Protsanov is a trainee of the Bendery rowing school: he studies in the Rostov Olympic Reserve School. His first coach was Yevgeny Logvin. It is important to note that Alexey Protsanov won an award in the European championships for the first time.

The prize-winner of the last year's World Championship and the Youth Olympic Games Vladislav Oleynikov was the best in a kayak pairs at the distance of 200 meters. Together with his crewmate Nikita Borisenko, he came in 4th. Also, the trainee of Dubossary Rowing School took part in the singles: 7th place — at 500 m, 11th place — in sprint.

The bronze prize-winner of this year's World Championship Oleg Shurinkin hasn't get European awards — he competed in kayak pairs at three distances and in kayak fours and at all distances and reached the final. The trainee of the Rybnitsa Rowing School Dmitry Sichinsky became the finalist for the first time in his career: being in a crew of a kayak four, he came in 6th at a distance of 1000 meters.

It's important to note a quite good score of debutants in such a high-rank competition. Vasily Voloshin and Egor Zavrichko representing the Moldova's national team reached the 'B' final in a kayak pairs twice: they outrowed many athletes from the leading rowing countries. They yielded only to the winners of the heat — the athletes from Germany and Turkey. Ukraine, Russia and Hungary led the medal table in juniors, — Romania, Russia and the Czech Republic — in youth.
