Nina Shtanski meets Russia's MFA Ambassador at Large Sergey Gubarev

During a meeting the parties discussed a series of issues related to the current Moldo-Pridnestrovian relations

The MFA press service reports that Nina Shtanski emphasised a sharp aggravation of the climate in the dialogue between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, caused with a range of new unfriendly steps by Moldova. In particular, she noted a sharp degradation of the situation with politically motivated criminal charges brought against Pridnestrovie's authorities, businessmen and ordinary citizens. According to her, the Moldovan media reports almost every week on the initiation of new legal proceedings against Pridnestrovie's officials, whereas Moldova persistently avoids officially informing Pridnestrovie of the actual number of criminal cases. In addition, the foreign minister noted that there are facts when the Pridnestrovian citizens who were put on wanted list by Moldova on politically motivated charges were detained abroad. Nina Shtanski underscored, in this regard, that Moldova's stand on this issue is inconsistent.

Proceeding with the subject of restrictions of Pridnestrovians' rights, the minister referred to the cases of Russian citizens being detained at Kishinev airport and deported. According to her, Pridnestrovie is especially concerned over the cases of deporting the Russian citizens permanently residing in Pridnestrovie. She emphasised the aggravation of this problem would be disastrous for the Moldo-Pridnestrovian dialogue.

According to Nina Shtanski, Moldova's latest measures restricting freedom of movement will exert no less negative influence on the relations between the parties and the regional stability on the whole. The minister noted that Moldova's decision to ban the movement of vehicles registered in Pridnestrovie through the Moldo-Ukrainian border is adversely affecting the socio-economic prosperity of Pridnestrovian citizens right now. She expressed hope that Moldova would realise possible consequences these restrictions may cause in the near future, including Pridnestrovie's possible decision to take retaliatory measures.

During the meeting the parties also exchanged views on some discriminatory measures taken by neighbouring countries against Pridnestrovie's economy. They also discussed the situation in the sphere of cargo railway communication via Pridnestrovie at the Rybnitsa-Slobodka sector.

During his visit to Pridnestrovie, Russia's ambassador at large also met Pridnestrovie's president, Yevgeny Shevchuk.

«Thanks to this very format of the peacekeeping operation, which has been carried out in Pridnestrovie for over 20 years, peace is preserved here," said Sergey Gubarev.
