The image-making potential of archaeology in forming the image of Pridnestrovie was discussed in Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University. Well-known ethnology and history experts, as well as representatives of Pridnestrovie's MFA and Lev Gumilyov Centre took part in a round-table discussion.
The leading researcher of the Archaeology research lab, Vitaliy Sinika, PhD, presented several archaeological projects. According to the researcher, unique ancient monuments in the territory of Pridnestrovie have long attracted the attention of both the international scientific community and world culture experts.
«This interest is caused by the concentration of different archaeological monuments belonging to different epochs and cultures. They are of both European and Asian origin, one might say, Eurasian. The variety of ancient artefacts makes our region unique," underscored Vitaliy Sinika.
According to him, «the use of archaeological resource may make a difference to the formation of Pridnestrovie's image.» In this regard, Vitaliy Sinika proposed to make a series of documentary films about archaeological monuments of the republic and compile a digital map of Pridnestrovie's antiquities. Besides, he thinks, publishing a colourful research catalogue, which will feature the archaeological treasures discovered in Pridnestrovie, may become a good image-making move.
The implementation of these projects, according to him, will help to raise the university's profile as a research centre. In addition, covering the achievements of Pridnestrovie's archaeology in the media will contribute to popularising historical knowledge of Pridnestrovie, which in turn will influence the attitude of Pridnestrovie's community towards historical and cultural monuments.
The deputy foreign minister, Igor Shornikov, commented on the researcher's speech, saying that archaeology has a high image-making potential and Pridnestrovie's archaeology experts will help to take advantage of this potential.
«The implementation of archaeological projects will be a good foundation for preventing our monuments from destruction and attracting additional attention to our historical and cultural heritage within the context of the Eurasian integration," said Igor Shornikov.
