The ceremony was attended by President Yevgeny Shevchuk, representatives of Russia's delegation, members of Pridnestrovie's government, led by Chairwoman Tatiana Turanskaya, Supreme Council deputies, heads of ministries and governmental agencies, representatives of non-government organizations, veterans, as well as residents and guests of Tiraspol.

Victory Day is the great holiday since the bloodiest war of the 20th century has affected almost every family in the territory of the ex-USSR. The residents of our region have made their significant contribution to the victory as well.

«Our compatriots from Kamenka, Rybnitsa, Dubossary, Grigoriopol, Tiraspol, Bendery and Slobodzeia also took part in the Great Patriotic War. More than 18,500 of them were killed in battle; nearly 50,000 people died during the occupation," said President Shevchuk at the rally.

It is impossible to forget about it, whoever tries to revise the history and aftermath of the Great Patriotic War, rally speakers emphasised.

«70 years has passed since that remote day in May 1945, when the Great Patriotic War finished, and the sky, tired of cannon sounds, burst into Victory fireworks. We will never forget the high price our people had paid for these minutes of triumph," said Ivan Kurkin, a Great Patriotic War veteran.

Igor Morozov recalled that the year of 2015 had been declared Veterans' Year in the CIS countries as a sign of recognition of the merits of those who made the victory possible.

«A spectacular event was the Memory Relay when the parliamentarians from all the CIS countries transferred a part of the Eternal Flame to the Commonwealth Flame, which was lit near the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg. It was an act of commemoration of the Great Victory. Our obeisance to you, dear veterans! We wish you health, kindness, prosperity and peaceful sky. Happy Victory Day!» said the Ruassian guest, addressing the rally participants.

A minute of silence was observed in tribute to the memory of those who lost their lives during the war, following which flowers were laid to the foot of the common graves.

The 70th anniversary of the victory has been a mass holiday in Tiraspol. The number of flowers, which have been laid at the Glory Memorial since the very morning, is the best evidence of the great importance Tiraspol residents attach to this holiday.
