Yevgeny Shevchuk: Pridnestrovie expects settlement of Ukrainian crisis

This was stated by the head of state during a news conference at MIA Rossiya Segodnya

According to him, Ukraine's events have a negative impact on the Pridnestrovian economy. The situation is further aggravated by the Moldovan leadership.

"Because of the new customs regime, introduced by Moldova, Pridnestrovie's economy has lost about $ 480 million. Some industries have been completely ruined. In particular, this refers to cross-border road transport and haulage services. Cross-border trade with Ukraine has entered a degradation phase as well," pointed out Yevgeny Shevchuk.

He also added that Moldova continued to impose new sanctions and recalled that the Association Agreement with the EU had been signed not long ago. According to the President, "the agreement has been concluded without regard to Pridnestrovie's interests."

"This situation results in the tangible pressure on Pridnestrovie, drop in budget revenues, job placement problems and unemployment. The Pridnestrovian side has proposed some ways out of the existing situation, but they are still under negotiation," said the head of state.

Yevgeny Shevchuk also said that male citizens of Russia face difficulties when crossing the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border.

"The number of those who haven't been allowed to cross the border has already come up to 600,000 people. We have always had good-neighbourly relations with Ukraine and expect the situation in this country will be resolved. We wish our Ukrainian partners could reach a political consensus," concluded Yevgeny Shevchuk.
