Ukraine bars goods transit for Russia's peacekeeping contingent in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic
This was stated by Yevgeny Shevchuk during a briefing at RIA Novosti. "As far as we know, the transit of supplies for the Russian peacekeepers is being barred by Ukraine at the moment," he said, answering the question if Kiev is really hindering goods transit for Russia's peacekeepers.
According to Yevgeniy Shevchuk, this is a matter of concern in Pridnestrovie as "in order to fully fulfil peacekeeping duties in compliance with the international agreement, it is necessary to have corresponding ammunition, uniform, equipment."
"I hope Ukraine and all the 5+2 Talks participants realise that it is necessary to establish conditions so that all the participants of peacekeeping operation could fulfil their duties. Otherwise it will obstruct operation facilities, which is very dangerous under unresolved conflict," RIA Novosti quotes Yevgeniy Shevchuk as saying.
This year the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie marks its 22nd anniversary. Peace in the conflict zone is preserved by 402 Russian troops; 492 Pridnistrovian; 355 Moldovan, as well as 10 military observers from Ukraine. The peacemakers serve at 15 fixed point posts and checkpoints located in the key sectors of the Security Zone.
