The chairman of the Republican Bank: "The Pridnestrovian rouble has not only been the foundation of the monetary system throughout 20 years, but also one of the most important attributes of state sovereignty"
Today, 22 August marks 20 years since the Pridnestrovian rouble, our republic's monetary unit, was introduced. That decision was stipulated in the Supreme Council's resolution of 17 August 1994.
"The Pridnestrovian rouble has not only been the foundation of the monetary system, but also one of the most important attributes of state sovereignty throughout 20 years," Edward Kosovsky, the chairman of the Republican Bank (RBP), noted in his address, published in the Bulletin of the RPB.
"Hardly can the uniqueness and importance of this event be overestimated, which is confirmed by many renowned monetary experts. Among all existing unrecognised states Pridnestrovie's experience is, perhaps, one of the most successful. It should be noted, however, that not every recognised state takes a risk to adopt its own money, using foreign currencies instead. And although this step releases from numerous problems, it also bears serious risks in view of complete dependence on other states," says Edward Kosovsky's address.
The chairman of the Republican Bank underscores that over the years and despite all trials the Pridnestrovian rouble has built trust among citizens and businesses. The design of monetary units has been changing, but their high quality has remained stable. The Republican Bank never stops at what has been accomplished and continues introducing new money production technologies.
It is to be recalled that composite coins, unique for both Pridnestrovie and international community, as well as commemorative banknotes , dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the rouble, are in circulation since today.
