The race vehicles are a gift from Russia's Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Fleet and the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS)
Today, on the 70th anniversary of the Iasi-Kishinev operation four karts have been solemnly donated to Pridnestrovie's Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Fleet (DOSAAF).
The ceremony was attended by Igor Morozov, a member of Russia's Council of Federation, Victor Chernov, the first deputy chairman of Russia's DOSAAF, Igor Shornikov, the director of Pridnestrovie's DOSAAF, Sergey Mokshantsev, the director of the Dnister-Prut Center of the RISS, as well as representatives of the youth organisation Zvezda, which is affiliated with Pridnestrovie's DOSAAF.
According to Victor Chernov, four vehicles were assembled at Russia's Patriot works in Sankt-Petrburg.
"Of course, we've had difficulty in assembling, preparing and transporting these karts here in such a short time, but we've got over all problems. We managed to do everything in 10 days," he noted. "We hope these karts will be the first step in developing technical sports."
The Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Fleet is 87 already. "Because of different political reasons, we were divided, but now it is a time to gather stones. That is why, guided by patriotic ideas, by a sacred idea of bringing up young people, we want to unite all patriotic movements in the ex-USSR territory. We want to inspire the old tradition of developing technical sports. We hope this first step, a prologue of our cooperation, will help Pridnestrovie's DOSAAF to start developing technical sports and involve young people," underscored Victor Chernov.
"It is symbolic that the DOSAAF and the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies are donating these superb cars to you. Now you have a chance to become real racers," Igor Morozov said to the representatives of the Zvezda youth organisation.
According to the director of the Dnister-Prut Center of the RISS, Sergey Mokshantsev, lots of efforts have been made to deliver these karts to Pridnestrovie. "We'll keep on working in the same vein," he promised.
The deputy foreign minister, Igor Shornikov, expressed confidence that "this equipment will not only get young people involved in new sports, but will also help to boost the country’s attractiveness abroad."
Kart racing has not been developed in Pridnestrovie in recent times. There is only one operating kart track in Grigoriopol. According to Victor Pental, the director of Pridnestrovie's DOSAAF, soon a kart track will be built in the capital.
"We have already a suitable place for it - a driving school's training ground. We'll raise money to build this kart track. There are already those who wish to do karting. In a month or two we'll organise a karting group, find a coach. I think we'll hold Pridnestrovie's open karting championship the next year. I also think we'll take part in Russia's DOSAAF championships, it is about 15 sports, and we have already been invited to all of them," said Victor Pental, adding that it is planned to open federations of water, aerial and shooting sports.
