Today, Yevgeniy Shevchuk has taken part in the press conference at the Parlamentskaya Gazeta newspaper's press center
Replying to the Russian reporters’ questions, the head of state touched upon issues on citizens' movement, caused by the situation in Ukraine.
"Recall that we have a rather long border with the country - almost 450 km. The Ukrainian events concern us, affect the Pridnestrovian economy and our citizens' movement," Yevgeniy Shevchuk stated.
According to him, today male citizens of Russia cannot cross the Ukraine-Pridnestrovie border. The Ukrainian refers to the safety reasons. However, there have been no explanations on the issue up to now, added Yevgeniy Shevchuk.
"Passenger traffic at the border has fallen by three times. I hope Ukraine will not worsen the existing situation," noted the President.
"There are a certain category of the Russian citizens who cannot come to Pridnestrovie," underscored the President, explaining that passenger transportation has become considerably more expensive.
Yevgeniy Shevchuk has also addressed the issue of Moldova's maintaining the administrative border with Pridnestrovie.
"In 2013-2014, it is Moldova that started to establish the administrative border with Pridnestrovie. They have requested and received international charters, and they have been enhancing the border infrastructure. Moldova has both customs officials and border police at the border with Pridnestrovie, thus carrying out nearly all functions of a state border," - said Yevgeniy Shevchuk, adding that allocating extra funds to the modernization of the Pridnestrovie-Moldova border shows that the republic has two full-fledged borders: Pridnestrovie-Moldova and Pridnestrovie-Ukraine borders.
