Tiraspol, June, 7. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. “My wings have grown, but I have nowhere to fly,” the main character of the story “Asya” by Ivan Turgenev said. For the artist Yuri Salko, this statement is far from reality: in his personal exhibition “Wings”, the artist tries to show the state of mind of the master with plots and symbols, he does not give complete answers, but only hints, provokes the viewer to become a co-author of his work.
“Having exhibited my work once, I noticed a lot of wings on my canvases. I began to analyze why that happened, and I immediately remembered Isaiah`s words: "Those who believe in God will spread their wings like eagles, and will be free in their actions." This is how the name of the exhibition originated,” the artist said.
Small bright room. Against the white walls the artist's works seem even more colorful. Behind a peculiar technique is not only the meaning based on the plots of the “eternal books”, but also the author’s soul itself, his thoughts, his insides. After all, as the artist himself says, “when the daily bustle and voices of people cease, everything is filled with some kind of quiet unearthly glow, you begin to feel differently”.
The number of people is growing, they are talking to each other, sharing their impressions, things get hectic in the hall. The exhibition itself is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of creative activity and the artist`s 55th anniversary. The previous day, there was presented a small retrospective in the walls of OSCE. Guests could familiarize themselves with both the early creations of Yuri Salko and the most recent ones, had completed only a couple days ago.
The exhibition is located on two floors. Going up to the second one and having passed two small halls where there were Yuri Salko`s works, the artist stopped at the big window. Behind him is another picture, just not the expressive symbolism presented today, but the most severe realism: a dark, cumbersome sky covered with black clouds. It seems about to rain.
“Wings raise the artist over the world of fuss. He is the transmitter of divine creation on earth, and his purpose is not just to recreate, but to multiply the gift given to him by God. And with help of the exhibitions we can show this gift to people.”
Outside it was already raining, and like a curtain, it fell on the stage of the hectic world, bringing us into the reality of the artist. Reality filled with symbols and references, which each interprets in its own way. The author moves away from the usual image of characters, rearranges accents from predestination to polysemy, versatility. Thus, he gives freedom to the viewer, leads him to a blue-sky thinking, leaves him alone to form his own perception.
Many admirers, colleagues and friends congratulated the man of the hour, expressed their admiration and gratitude for his creativity. President Vadim Krasnoselski has not been immune either. For many years of creative activity and high professional skills, Yuri Salko was awarded a medal. And it is not surprising, because besides the fact that he is a talented artist and is engaged in social activities, Yuri Ivanovich is also a member of the Heraldic Council under the President of the PMR. According to his sketches, such projects as the medal in honor of Nikolay Zelinsky and the medal “For good deeds” were prepared.
Yuri Salko is a world-renowned artist. His exhibitions are held not only in Pridnestrovie and neighboring countries, but also in foreign countries: the USA, European countries, and he recently became the winner of the international fair in Taiwan, Art Revolution Taipei. In addition to the exhibition in the OSCE office, which will last until the end of summer, two more are open in Tiraspol: the one is in the Russian consulate and another one is charity exhibition in the boarding house for elderly and disabled people, which you can also pay a visit to.
