Dubossary, January, 10. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today, January 10, the World War II Veteran, Nikolai Barabash celebrates his 97th birthday. Today he lives in Dubossary district. On his birthday Nikolai Nikolaevich was congratulated by the leadership of the city and the district. 

“We are happy to be your contemporaries, to have the opportunity to communicate with you, to learn a whole-hearted love for your homeland, courage and fortitude from you. Your love of life, openness and kindness deserve deep admiration” - the congratulation of the Mayor and the city council chairman says. They wished the veteran good health and longevity.  

Nikolay Barabashch was born in 1922 in the village of Dubovo. On April 12, 1944, he joined the Red Army. After passing the short course of flight shooters, he served in the 6th Regiment of the 1st Guards Airborne Division. He participated in Moldova, Hungary and Austria liberation. 

In winter of 1944, when crossing the Oder River, he was seriously wounded. Fragments of the projectile hit his chest, he had his left arm broken. Nikolai Nikolaevich had been treated at the hospital from December 1944 to May 1945. In the hospital, he learned about the Great Victory. 

Nikolay Barabash was awarded the medals "For Military Merit" and "George Zhukov." After the war, he returned to his native village, where his beloved wife Katyusha was waiting for him. They have lived together more than 70 years, built a house, raised three children. The veteran is heartened by six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
