Korshunov: positive economic dynamics to start next year

According to the MP, the elimination of grey schemes and intermediaries is only the first step in the development of the Pridnestrovian economy

Tiraspol, 7 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. It will take a long time to get out of the economic crisis, and only through hard work can we achieve positive dynamics, the chairman of the parliamentary committee on economic policy, budget and finance, Alexander Korshunov, said on TV.

According to him, the elimination of grey schemes and intermediaries is only the first step in the development of the Pridnestrovian economy.

«By eliminating intermediary companies, we've made the first step and only part of the revenue has come to the budget. But they are not sufficient to cover all the obligations of the state. So today both the government and the Supreme Council and the president are making every effort to develop the economy. I am sure the positive trends both in the economy and in the life of every citizen will start next year," noted Alexander Korshunov.

The MP underscored that an audit had been conducted throughout the country and that all grey schemes had been eliminated. This particularly refers to Energokapital, whose interests, according to Korshunov, was lobbied by part of the Moldovan economic elite, OAO Nek and OOO Tiras Met.

«Today Moldovan Steel Works (MMZ) has been working steadily and for the first time in two or three years it has become unprofitable. Let me remind you that all raw materials were supplied and finished products were sold through the intermediary company Tiras Med. Accordingly, the enterprise was losing profits, and the intermediary was prosperous," said the MP, recalling that the same situation was at Biohim.

The senior lecturer at the Economic Department of Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University, Mikhail Gibeskul, called such intermediary companies «criminal economy» and stressed that its elimination was a great advantage.

«It is necessary to move further in order to reduce the level of shadow activities because, unfortunately, our neighbours — Moldova, Ukraine, Russia — have a very high level of the shadow economy, and it is not possible for us not to have it» noted the expert.

According to him, it is necessary to make the economy more transparent and establish conditions for business in the country. And only administrative measures will not help.

«There is a need to optimise tax legislation, which is already being done in order to, on the one hand, facilitate the work of enterprises, to create the rules of the game which are necessary to conduct business. On the other hand, so that everyone would feel that if someone violated the law, he would be punished. In this case, the economy will be given a significant impetus," said Mikhail Gibeskul.

«When we create a safety cushion in the budget, when our enterprises feel quite convenient, this will be the first stage when people will sigh with relief. The second one will come when the well-being of every citizen increases. This can be done if we are able to implement our fiscal reform, create conditions for investors, for the business climate. We are on the positions that, by creating conditions, we reduce part of the shadow economy," added Korshunov.

«The external factor cannot be discounted, but if we do not repeat the managerial mistakes of the past five years, we'll overcome the crisis much faster. And I'm sure that since 2018 we'll see positive dynamics on all macroeconomic indicators and the budget will receive additional revenues, which will affect the living standards of every public sector employee and every pensioner," concluded Korshunov.
