Tiraspol, 5 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. As part of its visit to Pridnestrovie, an Austrian delegation visited Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University (SPSU). The parties discussed important educational issues, in particular, scientific cooperation between the two countries.
According to the rector, Stepan Beril, SPSU will continue to invite Austrian scholars to give lectures.
The meeting participants also referred to the launch of a joint historical project. In this connection. Stepan Beril and the Austrian ambassador to Moldova, Christine Freilinger, agreed to maintain contact.
«It is very important for us to look at educational problems outside of political issues and understand that education in Pridnestrovie is developing, that this sphere is a priority for the state," said the Austrian delegation.
The Austrian delegation included members of the National Council of the Austrian parliament and representatives of the Austrian embassy in Moldova. They were told about the history and formation of the Pridnestrovian university, as well as about the main areas of education. Stepan Beril noted that SPSU employed Russian educational standards, based on the principles of fundamental science.
«The university is the biggest research centre in the country. We cannot develop without developing science, and the state attaches great importance to the development of education and science in Pridnestrovie," said the rector.
The Austrian guests asked about the number of students and the quality of their training, as well as about the teaching staff's standards of living.
According to Beril, the Austrian delegation's visit was also important as the guests could get their own idea of what was going on rather than drawing conclusions about the situation in the country based on newspaper and TV reports.
This is the first visit by the Austrian delegation to SPSU, which may initiate scientific cooperation between the countries. So, cooperation has started. The university's leadership is confident that Austrian-Pridnestrovian relations will be successful.
