The bill «About the Public Health Protection from Surrounding Tobacco Smoke and Consequences of Tobacco Use», which was adopted by the Supreme Council in December of the last year and was signed by the President in January of the current year, comes into force in Pridnestrovie next Sunday. Two provisions of the antismoking law (Art. 15, paragraphs 2 and 3) obliging the employers and owners of the public catering enterprises to organize separate smoking areas for employees and visitors will come into effect only after January 1, 2016.
The law prohibits smoking of tobacco products in public places, rooms and in certain territories. Advertizing and sponsorship of tobacco and tobacco sale to the minors will be also under the statutory ban. The draft establishes a number of restrictions in tobacco trade. Notably that it is prohibited to sell cigarettes at the distance less than 100 meters from educational institutions, and also in places relating to the transport infrastructure and in places of consumer services rendering.
Certain social and awareness campaigns against tobacco consumption are to be implemented within this law in Pridnestrovie's society. The law will also provide the citizens with opportunity of receiving medical treatment from consequences of tobacco smoking.
According to the Administrative Offense Code, the citizens will be fined for an amount ranging from 10 to 20 points of minimum wage for smoking in the prohibited places (at playgrounds — from 35 to 50 points), the officials and the organizations will be fined for an amount ranging from 50 to 150 points of minimum wage, and for smoking of minors and their involvement in smoking — from 10 to 50 points.
