Ukraine planning to open diplomatic mission in Pridnestrovie

That has been announced by Ukraine's MFA spokesman, Yevgeny Perebeynis

Ukraine's ministry of foreign affairs announced the closure of its consular offices in Suceava (Romania), Prešov (Slovakia), Varna (Bulgaria), Marseille (France), Batumi (Georgia), Nizhny Novgorod (Russia), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Haifa (Israel) and Curitiba (Brazil).

According to Ukraine's MFA spokesperson, this is due to the optimisation of the use of government finance. The diplomatic missions have stopped receiving citizens since the beginning of the month, Pridnestrovie's First Channel quotes Ukriform as reporting.

"When choosing which mission to close, different factors have been considered, including the scope of problems and number of consular operations performed, proximity of other consular offices, number of citizens in the consular register," said Yevgeny Perebeynis.

However, according to him, one consular office is to open in Pridnestrovie, where many Ukrainian citizens reside. "Its status and location are yet to be defined; the consultations are ongoing," added Ukraine's MFA spokesperson.

The status of another six offices in Nyíregyháza (Hungary), Edinburgh (UK), Thessaloniki (Greece), Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk (Russia) will be changed from consulate general to consulate, which helps to reduce financing and the number of employees.
