Russia's foreign affairs minister: Kishinev must not impede relations between Pridnestrovie and the Eurasian Economic Union

Russia's minister of foreign affairs, Sergey Lavrov, said that Kishinev must not impede relations between Pridnestrovie and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), reports the Russian online newspaper Gazeta.ru

"We hope the Moldovan authorities will not impose obstacles to Pridnestrovie's free foreign economic ties," he said.

According to Lavrov, the republic cannot join the Customs Union and the EEU because of its current status. However, in compliance with the 1997 memorandum, Pridnestrovie has "the right for free foreign economic activity, which means free trade and investment relations with Russia and Europe."
