Slobodzeya, September, 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today Slobodzeya is celebrating its 250th anniversary. One of the very first mentions of the town was found in 1769 on a map of Russian cartographer of German origin Friedrich Bauer.
Despite the fact that the date is impressive, it was the first time that City Day has been celebrated on September 21. Previously, it was celebrated on holy days, which the Russian and Moldavian town parts held on different days: August 28 and November 21.
The date of celebration is no coincidence. According to the Director of the Slobodzeya Museum Association Victoria Cheban, the Slobodzeya history is closely connected with the Cossacks. Earlier in the Russian part there was the residence of the Black Sea Cossack army. The Holy Mother of God whose birth falls on September 21 is the patroness of the Cossacks. Therefore, it was decided to choose precisely this date as the City Day.
President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselski, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, First President Igor Smirnov, ministries heads and heads of cities and regions state administrations arrived to congratulate residents on the anniversary.
The Town Day celebration began with the Street Run - Slobodzeya marathon, which was attended by about 75 runners. The culmination of the event was the the arcade complex opening, which became a gift for the citizens.
The complex itself consists of 8 arches, which will be lit with colorful lanterns in the evening. While the center of the rest area and one of the most important objects was the fountain, there is a loving couple in the middle of it, hiding from the rain under an umbrella.
Young citizens, President Vadim Krasnoselski and the head of the city and region Vasily Tishchenko cut the red band, thus “launching” the fountain.
The complex idea had been hatched for several years, and construction building began 5 months ago. It was held at the expense of the Investment Fund. In addition except of the complex , during this time other socially important objects of not only the city, but also other region settlements were elevated and repaired.
Another important event was the time capsule laying with a message to the descendants of 2044.
Locals admit that this year their city has changed a lot. For example, Svetlana says that she almost has never visited this part of the city before: there was no pavement, it was impossible to walk there. Now, the woman believes that the complex will become a favorite place for all citizens.
“Recently, our city has changed a lot, it was elevated. In the center, there appeared a fountain, tiles, flower beds. Now it will be our permanent vacation spot with children,” the girl said.
Further, the celebration moved to the House of Culture, where a concert was held and in a festive atmosphere, the President presented honorary medals to the most eligible residents of the city. In his congratulatory speech, Vadim Krasnoselski noted that the Slobodzeyans always coped with difficulties with dignity and dedication, rising to an exemplary level.
“There are only people who remember their history, value it and strive to develop and contribute to the future behind all the exploits, achievements, construction sites and comfort. Therefore, once again I would like to express my gratitude to the residents of Slobodzeya and Slobodzeya District,” the President said.
On the street, the residents had fun too. In front of the House of Culture, courtyards and thematic zones were organized. Music played everywhere: for example, a small concert was held at the Cossack compound, everyone could take pictures at the stands and even have a snack.
In addition, there was launched an agricultural fair.
Pupils of the art school and creative groups of Slobodzeya demonstrated their talents. Guests and residents of the city could familiarize themselves with their work at the presented exhibitions.
A concert was held in the alley near the arcade complex, where the PMR Armed Forces General Staff orchestra, as well as local soloists and creative groups took part in.
The holiday will continue until the evening. DoReDos will perform there. The concert will begin at 8 pm. The celebration will end at 9 pm with a celebratory fireworks.
