Dubossary District, April, 23. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. History teachers and students of the Doybani Main Moldovan General Education School - one of the oldest in the Dubossary District - have been conducting research since Soviet times. On the territory of the educational institution there is a mass grave in which 86 Soviet soldiers who died in April 1944 during the liberation of the village from the German-Romanian invaders, are buried.

Victory in the village Doybani-1, Doybani-2, Koykovo and Dubovo was brought by the Red Army soldiers of the 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. Relatives of 46 front-line soldiers living in the fraternal republics of the Soviet Union were found back in the Soviet era. Relatives and close ones of another 40 liberators have not been found until today, although the names and surnames of the dead warriors are known.

“Our school was built in 1910. During the occupation by the Romanian fascists, there was a stable in the building. A mass grave appeared on the school grounds during the liberation of the village, and a medical battalion was organized in the building. For us, this is a holy place. Soviet soldiers are buried here, and students of our school honor their feat, care for the grave and know at what price the Great Victory over fascism had been won,” the school director of Doybani-1 Genuza Kandit noted.

According to her, with the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 90s, it became more difficult to work on finding the relatives of the dead front-line soldiers. With the advent of Internet resources, there is hope that this important matter could be continued and people living in other countries would want to know where their loved ones had been buried, as well as to visit the graves. For enquiries, call: 00373215-733-42 and 00373778-290-47, Genuza Ivanovna Kandit.

Today, relay race of Ribbon of Saint George international campaign has started at the mass grave of the village of Doybani-1.

Orange-black symbols of courage and heroism were brought to the village of Doybani by pupils of the school No. 7 and activists of the regional branch of the RPP Renewal. A meeting was held near the mass grave, at which they talked about the history of the Victory symbol, about the Great Patriotic War and handed out St. George Ribbons. More than 50 villagers died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

Today only one World War II participant Ivan Timofeevich Kolbas lives in Doybani. This year he turned 101. It is difficult for an honorary front-line soldier to attend commemorative events, but he hopes that that year on May 9 he would be able to celebrate the next anniversary of the Great Victory.
