Tiraspol, February, 15. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselski addressed the peacekeeping soldiers and family members of the perished defendants on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Soviet Troops` Withdrawal from Afghanistan.
On February 15, 1989, the remaining units of the 40th Army and the USSR border troops left the territory of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. The period of international assistance of the Soviet Union to the people of Afghanistan had come to an end. Three decades had passed, but the memory of those events still live in the hearts of millions of people.
“The war in Afghanistan was a Soviet Union reaction to the increased threat of radicalism and terrorism on the Soviet frontier. The Shuravi warriors preserved peace and tranquility of their homeland, following the officer's honor, preserving their soldierly dignity. Having shown true courage and bravery in the crucible of war, the Soviet soldier fulfilled his duty with honor” - the message says.
There were also Pridnestrovians in the ranks of the peacekeeping soldiers on Afghan soil. This war had become an open wound for widows and mothers of perished defendants, for Afghan soldiers who had been through the anger of the lost of comrades in Salang, in Shindand, Kandahar, Jalal-Abad, Farah, in the warlike villages of the Afghan highlanders.
“Today veterans of the war in Afghanistan continue to work in production, in law enforcement agencies, in educational institutions, in health care system for the benefit of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. These are people for whom honor and dignity are not just words, but a system of life values. These are true patriots who are a worthy example for the younger generation” - Vadim Krasnoselski emphasizes.
On the Day of Remembrance and Glory of the Peacekeeping Soldiers, the President wished the veterans and their relatives "good health, well-being and a peaceful sky over their heads". He also addressed those who lost their loved ones in the war.
“Dear Afghan soldiers and family members of the perished defendants of the Fatherland! We salute the memory of those who did not return from Afghanistan fulfilling their military duty. May they forever be remembered! ”- the head of state said.
