Bendery, February, 14. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In Bendery, asphalt collapsed near the building of the old sewing workshop. The First Pridnestrovian TV channel reports that city workers found vaulted arches at a depth of almost 3 meters. According to historians, this is an old basement of the Turkish era.
“For our town, this is a common case when there are landslides and there we discover arches of the Turkish period. Of course, there is still a long way to explore these discoveries, but still it seems that this refers to the Turkish period. The historian Georgiy Atsvatsaturov asserted that there were such passages in the city. However, local historian Yevgeny Lobanov has not found any references confirming this” - Galina Gnoyanik, Head of the Scientific and Methodological Department of the Bendery Museum of Regional History said.
As it turned out, such underground passage was also found in the 60s of the last century, but they did not dig it out. On the contrary, they laid a stone leading deep into the entrance, and swamp it with rubble and sand. Then they decimated it on top.
According to one version, it was Romanians who build this basement, not the Turks. Historians of local lore will give the accurate answer. They have already begun to study historical discoveries.
