PSU development programme discussed in Russia's State Duma

PSU rector Stepan Beril informed President Krasnoselsky about the results of his visit to Moscow

Tiraspol, 17 October. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The rector of Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University (PSU), Stepan Beril, held a number of meetings during his working visit to Moscow in educational institutions and research centres with which the university has actively cooperated. He told the president about the results of his visit, the president's press service reports.

Thus, during a meeting with the chair of the State Duma committee on education, Vyacheslav Nikonov, Beril discussed a targeted programme for PSU development, which was called an important document by the Russian MP, giving an idea of the university's parameters and prospects for its development.

They also discussed President Krasnoselsky's initiative to hold a roundtable discussion of the Pridnestrovian economy in the context of the economic development of Russian regions. The event is planned to be held at the Financial University under the Russian Government. The forum will be also attended by Ptidnestrovian scientists.

The rector told the Russian MP about another task set by Krasnoselsky — to restore the country's scientific potential and make maximum use of it in the interests of Pridnestrovie. In particular, they talked about training and refresher courses for Pridnestrovian teachers in Russian universities.

Stepan Beril told the president that 15 free seats had been allocated for Pridnestrovie's post-graduate students with the assistance of Russia’s Rossotrudnichestvo agency. The rector noted that was a good start, but the university required much more student quotas. "The number of PSU's post-graduate students exceeds 150 people. Our specialists seek to study at the post-graduate departments of Russian universities. Everyone understands that the Russian scientific degree is recognised in any state," said Beril.

Stepan Beril also discussed with Rossotrudnichestvo representatives the opening of the agency's office in PSU.

Stepan Beril also told Vadim Krasnoselsky about his participation in the Science Festival organised Moscow State University with the involvement of 2.4 million people.  Ten years ago, according to the rector, the number of participants did not exceed 30,000. The festival was held in virtually all Russian universities and covered a large number of young people— from junior schoolchildren to school leavers. "This interest suggests that Russia really attracts scientific resources to the innovative development, especially in the sphere of high technologies," said Beril. The Pridnestrovian university, which follows the traditions of MSU, plans to hold a similar event, the rector said.

The president praised the university's work, emphasising its role in the establishment of the state.

"It is impossible to imagine modern Pridnestrovie without PSU. This is a huge scientific, practical and intellectual base. You are shaping Pridnestrovie's future. Today's PSU graduates will become politicians, diplomats, economists, managers tomorrow. They will come to replace us. The future of Pridnestrovie and Pridnestrovian people depends on our efforts in the educational field," underscored Krasnoselsky.

The president dwelt on PSU's cooperation with Russian universities in this sphere, noting he appreciated those efforts made by both the rector and the university as a whole. The president noted the desirability of integrating the Pridnestrovian education in the Russian system. One of the important aspects is the opportunity to use the maternal capital for paying tuition in Pridnestrovie.

Besides, the president also considers important cooperation in training and organising refreshing courses for Pridnestrovians. Another important aspect is the opportunity for Pridnestrovian school leavers to study at Russian universities.  Vadim Krasnoselsky believes such an opportunity should be given to Pridnestrovian kids, but it is also important that they should return home after graduation. In this regard, it is important, the president believes, to restore the previously closed or establish new research labs at PSU.

"We can't save on that. The graduates should apply their knowledge here. That's what they won't be able to do without research facilities. We must create jobs for them, including at research labs," underscored the president. He expressed confidence that the country's development was not possible without a sustainable intellectual basis.
