'May courage live for centuries'

A flower-laying ceremony took place at Tiraspol's Military Glory Memorial

Tiraspol, 9 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A great number of Pridnestrovians are celebrating the 72nd anniversary of the Great Victory today. Following the military parade today, Tiraspol inhabitants and the guests of the city came to the Glory Memorial to pay tribute to the memory of the fallen defenders of the Fatherland.

President Vadim Krasnselsky laid the first wreath at the Eternal Fire.

The ceremony was also attended by the country's first president Igor Smirnov, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Scherba, Chairman of the Government Alexander Martynov, MPs and Tiraspol council members, representatives from the Operative Group of Russian Forces in Pridnestrovie, clerics of the Tiraspol-Dubossary diocese, NGO members and members of the city's labour collectives. Many came to the memorial with their families.

The most important and honorary participants were veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

The memory of the fallen soldiers was honoured with a rifle salute.

At the end of the ceremony, columns of people have gone to a military camp of the OGRF for a series of Victory Day celebrations. In particular, they will see an enactment of the 1945 battle.
