Tiraspol, 24 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The implementation of the state programme «Construction, repair and reconstruction of drinking water supply systems in villages and settlements in the PMR in 2011−2015» has seriously improved water supply in the countryside, said the director of the state unitary enterprise Water Supply and Sewerage, Valery Ponomarenko, on Radio 1. A great amount of work has been done within this programme.

«This includes the erection of new water towers, especially in northern districts where they have never existed before and water was taken in wells, the laying of new water supply systems, the mounting of pumps and frequency switches. Considerable amounts have been invested in the installation of sewerage systems and treatment facilities," said Valery Ponomarenko.

According to him, all that has enhanced villages' water supply only, but the quality of drinking water as well.

However, problems are still a long way from being resolved in many villages. Such villages, facing the most complicated situation, come under the enterprise's own investment programme. In other words, the enterprise will finance works in these villages at its own expense (to the extent of its financial capability).

«This does not only include the laying of new pipes, but also the installation of water towers. The works will be implemented in the villages where the water supply situation is almost disastrous. Such problems exist in Kamenka, Slobodzeya, Grigoriopol and Dubossary districts, which suffer most from pipe leaks. More detailed information on the implementation of the programme and our further plans, as well as the opportunity to file applications, will be soon available on our web site, which is currently under reconstruction," noted the enterprise director.

The state programme «Construction, repair and reconstruction of drinking water supply systems in villages and settlements in the PMR in 2011−2015» was worked out five years ago in connection with a critical situation in this sphere.

At that moment the average of mains system wear was over 69%, and about 50% of drinking water used to be lost during delivery due to the dilapidation of central water supply systems in villages and settlements.

It is the second large-scale state programme as for its tasks and funding launched in Pridnestrovie, with the gasification programme being the first.
