Tiraspol, 9 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Immediately after the military parade in honour of the 73rd anniversary of the great victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War a flower-laying ceremony was held at the Glory Memorial.
The column of Tiraspol residents and guests of the country, who have arrived to share with the Pridnestrovians the joy of this holiday, was headed by Pridnestrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky.
From year to year, in moments of joy and sorrow, Tiraspol residents come to this sacred place to bow down and lay flowers in memory of the defenders who at the cost of their own lives defended the peaceful sky over the heads of living generations.
The first wreath was laid by Vadim Krasnoselsky. He was followed by Chairman of the Government Alexander Martynov, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba and First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov.
Among those who came today to pay a tribute of memory and bow to the bravery of the fallen defenders of the Motherland were war veterans, members of non-governmental organisations and political parties, participants of the Immortal Regiment procession and members of official delegations, guests of Pridnestrovie.
Those who came to the Glory Memorial today noted that Victory Day is a date that attests to the triumph of peace and justice, the eternal memory of the lessons of courage and humanity. Today, 73 years after the last shots of that war were fired, the sorrow about the losses of loved ones is still alive. The victory in the Great Patriotic War was achieved at the highest cost - at the cost of human lives. The war had no mercy on children or adults. But the people survived this war and rose from the ashes.
It is important to realise and remember the price at which peace was achieved, to be worthy successors of the older generations.
After the ceremony, the Immortal Regiment marched to the military base of the Operative Group of Russian Forces to take part in the festivities organised by the Russian military, including honouring war veterans and a concert.
