Tiraspol, 3 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The government is proposing to lift a restriction limiting the duration of seasonal import and export duties.  The corresponding draft law has been submitted to the Supreme Council.

According to the current edition of the law "On customs tariffs", it is the government that has the right to establish these duties. This very law determines their duration, which must not exceed six months a year. However, this may be insufficient in some cases.

"The seasonal duties regulate the procedure of import and export of the goods that can be defined as seasonal. The seasonal nature can vary for each product in terms of time frames which can exceed six months due to periodic fluctuations in the corresponding commodity markets," says the explanatory note to the bill.

In case the bill is approved by MPs, the government will retain the right to introduce seasonal duties, but it will be no longer limited to a six-month period.
