Foreign minister meets newly appointed South Ossetia's plenipotentiary to Pridnestrovie

They discussed the prospects for further relations between the two countries

Tiraspol, 12 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. As Novosti Pridnestrovya has already reported, Vitaly Yankovsky was appointed new plenipotentiary (ambassador) of South Ossetia to Pridnestrovie. He was appointed to this post during his participation as an international observer in the presidential election and referendum which were held in South Ossetia last Sunday.

«It happened that I was in South Ossetia as an international observer from Pridnestrovie. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday we took part in the monitoring of the election and referendum, touring polling stations, talking to people. And the following day the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia issued a decree on my appointment. So, I met both the sitting president and the president-elect and parliament members as a newly appointed plenipotentiary. All the officials I happened to talk confirmed their continued commitment to the development of friendly and fraternal relations with Pridnestrovie," said Vitaly Yankovsky.

Meanwhile, Yankovsky recalled the times when Pridnestrovie and South Ossetia had exchanged numerous delegations, including on-stage performance groups. Unfortunately, Vitaly Yankovsky underscored, it is not possible now because of the situation in Ukraine. «The new time, however, implies new cooperation forms. I think we'll find them.» he said.

In turn, Vitaly Igntyev noted: «I believe this is a very important strategic direction for us — bilateral cooperation with our fraternal state, with which we are so closely related. I think it will not only develop in such a dynamic way but also receives an additional impetus and new substance for the benefit of our peoples.»

Speaking about South Ossetia's past election, the Pridnestrovian foreign minister appealed to the South Ossetian people represented by South Ossetia's plenipotentiary: «This the people's choice. We, therefore, would like to take the opportunity to convey through you our greetings and best wishes. We believe that South Ossetia has all the necessary reasons to develop and build its statehood for the benefit of the people.»

Referring to the current situation around Pridnestrovie and South Ossetia, Vitaly Ignatyev underscored: «Unfortunately, there are difficulties. In many ways, this is what unites us. The development of our countries in the modern period and the current moment suggests that things are not working out the way we want them to. External pressure may sometimes increase or diminish, but it is in the nature of our peoples to overcome obstacles and move forward towards the target. Therefore, I think that even under such conditions our work will be substantive, meaningful and efficient.

After the meeting, Ignatyev said in an interview with journalists: «The work must be carried out continuously and smoothly. A new president has been elected in South Ossetia. There might be changes in the government. We are glad this decision [on the appointment of the new South Ossetia's plenipotentiary to Pridnestrovie] was so rapid. This means that relations with Pridnestrovie are of great importance and priority for South Ossetia. This is why we have not discussed procedural moments today but the prospects for further cooperation and interaction on specific issues. I think this work will be intensified.»
